Moving

Ok, I've been putting off posting about our move until I have pictures, but who knows when that will be (no computer set up at home that I can get the pictures off the memory card with).

So, we bought a house closer to Jaron's job. Things went pretty smooth with buying it, aside from the forest of trees we killed with all the paperwork. But, we got it! Jaron qualified for the Home Choice program (to help people with disabilities purchase a home) because of his hearing loss. It gives us 30% of our mortgage at a 1% interest rate. It's available throughout Utah and is a great program.

Closing happened a few days after we had originally anticipated, so we were sort of rushing to get painting done so we could get carpet in. EVERYTHING needed to be painted, and all the floors needed to be redone. My wonderful brother (and his wonderful wife who let him spend so much time at our house) and my sister and her husband came several days to help paint and watch kids. Jaron's family was able to watch kids in Logan to get stuff done there. We were able to get everywhere painted that was going to be carpeted.

So, onto carpet. I was there when they did the carpet. It looked great! I didn't have the sample with me, but I knew it was the color/pattern we picked out. Then I stepped on it. Then I felt it. It was not right. It was thin. We found the sample in Logan, compared them, and we definitely got the wrong weight of carpet. On moving day, Jaron took some time to go talk to them about it. The guy was understanding, gave us a credit for it, and we decided to have them do the bathroom floor and we'd get the laminate for the living room and kitchen from them. Sounded fine to me. Better than having to move all our furniture back out and spending 2-3 more days of them ripping up and reinstalling carpet again. All was well, we'd deal with the carpet, because it does still look nice.

Well, now they have been a royal pain in the butt to get a hold of. They were supposed to call back with an adjusted price...haven't heard anything. They were supposed to call and let us know what time they'd be there to do the bathroom. We didn't hear anything until I called them that morning and they said they had just left the store to come do it. They were supposed to bring the laminate yesterday (we're installing it with the help of my brother-in-law). I had to be at work, but they said they would leave it. They didn't. The laminate has to be in the house for 48 hours before installing it so it can adjust to the humidity. Now we probably can't install it this weekend. I'm severely annoyed with them.

The house has been great aside from flooring, toilet leaks, kitchen faucet being plugged after installing the water heater, and the water line to fridge having a hole. I think everyone at Home Depot should know us by now. At least we're keeping them in business.

At least the washer and dryer work. Pictures will hopefully come soon (if we ever get the house in decent enough shape to take "after" pictures).

Ah, the joys of home ownership. I gotta say, I haven't had that many problems with a house yet. I hope you get it all worked out and the flooring guys all get slow leaks in their car tires, after they deliver all your goods, just so they can feel a little inconvenienced. Love ya!

Ahhhh...the initial bleed of money after a home purchase. I hope things get better and you get to start enjoying being a HOME OWNER soon!
